چکیده

The incorporation of glucosamine-'4C by Ehrlich ascites tumor cells has been mess ured both in vivo and in vitro. A considerable amount of high molecular weight radio active material appears outside of the cells under both conditions. The radioactive extracellular fluids were subjected to gel ifitration and to chromatography on DEAE cellulose (diethylaminoethyl cellulose) columns. These experiments demonstrated the presence of a number of labeled components differing in their affinity to DEAE cellulose, in their molecular size, and also in the ratio of 14C present as glucosamine and as galactosamine. Digestion with Pronase caused a considerable reduction of molecular sizes of the extracellular radioactive molecules, demonstrating that glyco protein-like molecules are present. The results suggested that a differential leakage of glycoproteins occurred both in vivo and in vitro.

from the well-established observation that the protein bound carbohydrate level of blood plasma is elevated in cancerous individuals (28) and the possibility that cancer cells may contribute carbohydrate-containing proteins to the circulation (2, 3, 12, 13). For initial studies we have selected Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells and are using glucosarnine-'4C to label carbohydrate-containing macro...

The effect of D-glucosamine on the adenine and uridine nucleotides of sarcoma 180 ascites tumor cells.

The effect of D-glucosamine on the metabolism of adenine and uridine nucleotides in Sarcoma 180 ascites tumor cells was investigated as part of an effort to determine the biochemical basis for the cytotoxic effects of glucosamine on tumor cells. Incubation of ascites tumor cells with exogenous glucosamine resulted in a 4-fold increase in the pool size of UDP-N-acetylhexosamine. A large fraction...

Antitumor Activity of Prosopis glandulosa Torr. on Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC) Tumor Bearing Mice

The antitumor activity of ethanol extract of Prosopis glandulosa Torr. (EPG) was evaluated against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) tumor model in Swiss albino mice on dose dependent manner. The activity was assessed using survival time, average increase in body weight, hematological parameters and solid tumor volume. Oral administration of EPG at the dose of 100, 200 and 400 mg/Kg, significantl...
